Small Business Rate Relief News

Friday July 2, 2010 at 10:04am

The temporary increase in small business rate relief has been confirmed by the new government.

The increase will apply for 12 months from 1 October 2010 and means that eligible businesses occupying premises with a rateable value of £6,000 or less will pay no business rates for that period. For properties with a rateable value of between £12,000 and £6,000 there will be relief on a sliding scale from 100% to zero.

For more information on how this will affect your business rates bill contact Steve Petty.

This cannot be right???? !!! ...

Thanks for your comment Alan. Small business rate relief is only available to businesses with: •one property with a rateable value of less than £18,000 or •one main property and other additional properties providing the additional properties each have a rateable value below £2,600, and the aggregate rateable value of all your properties is below £18,000. The argument to run with the local authority is that the empty unit is exempt from business rates due to the rateable value and so this should not be classed as an additional property. ...
